Must-Play Entry 2: Prototype

leave a comment »

Entry 1 is Killzone 2 (I forgot to include that in my previous post)

Prototype ( Sierra, 2008 ) is an open-world action game (for you noobs, think GTA and Assassin’s Creed Combined). It’s by Radical Entertainment, famous for games such as Scarface: The World is Yours and The Simpsons: Hit and Run. These titles, however, can’t seem to compare with this upcoming project.

Synopsis
You play as Alex Mercer (related to Ron Mercer? :p), a mysterious, amnesiac shape-shifter finding his way through New York City. He has an unbelievable absolute mastery over his genetic structure and learns that he is not the only one with this remarkable skill. Soon enough, he finds out that there is a secret war brewing within NYC as the government tries to stop a deadly viral infection from spreading further – or will you help the creatures spread the virus by infecting more people? This is the decision said to be made by the gamer in this very open-world game that stresses freedom.

Adaptive Parkour and Combat

What I find intriguing in this game is the Parkour element. You breeze through cars, climb walls, and hopscotch over buildings throughout the city. Combat is violent with lots of explosions, gun fire, melee combat, as you unlock and unleash your full power over your enemies.

The Bad News
The game is forecasted to be released in Q3 this year, however, with no official announcement yet of an official release, there are rumors that the game would have a delayed release to 2009. If it requires that much time to build and develop this game into something even more mysterious, and gameplay-generous, then the wait could be more than worth it. I still have MGS4, GTA4, and Killzone2 to play anyway

Killzone 2

with one comment

Word has gone out of the imminent release of Killzone 2, the sequel to Killzone (PS2), which was dubbed the Halo Killer.

But, and I stress a big BUT, this was not the fact as was seen when I played Killzone. I for one, was not at all convinced at first when I heard of this, I even thought that Killzone won’t even beat Black (EA 2005)! Graphics were impressive on first look, which could be the reason why several gamers could have been convinced this would be the source for the demise of Halo, but when zoomed in, the textures were rough and not at all smooth. I have also seen Templar (I played as Rico) seemingly magically having his hairstyle changed when you looked at him from different angles. Controls were also terrible! You run at a CRAWLING pace and crouch as slow as a grandfather with a bad back. The guns (for the first time ever in a game) were to the advantage of the enemy.

Most guns especially the rocket launcher engulfs almost half of the screen, making it harder to aim and quickly look around for other enemies. Most guns were also hard to aim, especially the guns of the Helghast. These are the few of the issues that Guerilla should resolve. I have yet to see actual gameplay footage of Killzone 2, however, based from the official trailer, it looks quite promising.

Can’t wait for Feb’09
